Where cities, companies & communities
are co-creating free & open source software
Flossbcn is a non-profit and grassroots community whose mission is to become a platform and a summit for professionals, companies, researchers, and students inside the scope of FreeLibre and Open Source Software to discuss and share experiences also promoting events where everybody with an interest in FLOSS is welcome to exchange their knowledge.
We want to grow the free software community in Barcelona and scale solutions to tackle companies and city’s challenges.
WE ARE THE CITY
Within this framework, one of the main objectives to be achieved is the preferential use of free software, with the aim of making its use mandatory in the future to ensure technological and data sovereignty.
To achieve this goal, it is imperative to map the different local and international entities that are related to free and open source software and that can meet the future needs.
Barcelona City Council, through the “Government measure for open digitisation. Free software and agile development of services to the public administration” of October 2017, established a global vision of the digital transformation program and sets ethical digital standards together with practical incremental changes to migrate to free software and enhance citizens’ digital freedom. The measure focuses on the delivery of agile digital services, the process to achieve technological sovereignty and the migration to free software and open source standards
